Anyone in the design industry (be it digital or print) would be familiar with clients asking “can you make the logo bigger?”. It’s the bane of lot of desigers existance. Can you make my logo bigger? by Ken Richmond does a great job of explaining why a client may want their logo bigger, so I wont go into the why. What I will share is my response to a client (who shal remain nameless) when I was asked.

Domain Names Are About To Change
Over the next few years domain names are going to dramatically change. This change has been in the works for several years but only now are we getting to the pointy end of the process. Essentially what is happening is ICANN, the people who control domain names, are going to allow a whole lot more Top Level Domains (TLD). What is a TLD? Well it’s the little bit at the end of a domain name, e.g. .com, .net, .tv. ICANN are going to allow companies to administer other TLDs. For example Google could administer .google and then could use domains such as au.google instead of google.com.au or drive.google instead of drive.google.com, you get the idea.

Louis C.K.’s Experiment
Louis C.K. ran an interesting experiment late last year, one that I hope takes off. Louis C.K. is an American comedian who you may or may not have heard of. For the record I do enjoy his comedy styling but who he is is irrelevant, what he did is important. You see what he decided to do was to put together a comedy special featuring himself. Now this is not that odd, he had done it before, what made this time different is that he funded and distributed it all himself. This allowed him to keep costs down as he did not have to pay the normal ‘middle men’. Which meant he was able to sell it for only five bucks. (more…)
Why You Should Update Your Browser
First things first, what is a browser. A browser (AKA web browser, internet browser or internet thingy) is software that allows you to access the internet. If you don’t know what a browser is you’re probably using Internet Explorer (IE) or Safari if you’re on a Mac. They are the default browsers that come with their respective operating systems. People often mistake IE as ‘the internet’, this is not the case, it is simply a way to access the internet. Just as you can open jpegs with a bunch of different programs you can also access the internet with other browsers. (more…)
